
There are four free concerts at the UW-School of Music in the next two days. Take a look at what’s on offer:
7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th in Mills Hall, the Student Ensemble Chamber Orchestra under the direction of James Smith, will perform a program that includes “Concerto in E-flat, Dumbarton Oaks” by Igor Stravinsky; “Pan and Syrinx,” Op. 49 by Carl Nielsen; “Waking Dream” by Laura Elise Schwendinger, with Christina Jennings, flute (premiere); and “Symphony No. 4″ (“Tragic”) by Franz Schubert.
8:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th in Morphy Hall, The Black Music Ensemble under the direction of Richard Davis will perform.
8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13th, the Concert Choir conducted by Beverly Taylor will perform works including motets by Otto Olsson, Stanford and Gibbons; plus the “Lamentations of Jeremiah” by Ginastera; “Behold I Build an House” by Luka Foss, with pianist Michael Ross; and Swedish and American part songs and folk songs.
8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13th the Student Wind Ensemble under the direction of Scott Teeple will perform a chamber concert featuring “Le bal de Beatrice d’Este” by Reynaldo Hahn; “Symphony for Brass and Percussion” by Gunther Schuller; and “Dog Breath Variations” by Frank Zappa
