Free Madison Jazz Orchestra performance

Madison Jazz Orchestra

Madison Jazz Orchestra

The Madison Jazz Orchestra will perform in the Overture Hall Lobby at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18th as part of the free Overture After Work series.

According to the orchestra’s website, it was “…organized by the late Dennis Oliver, Madison bassist extraordinary, in 1986 with its first concert at the Sheraton Hotel, The Madison Jazz Orchestra has performed in many venues and events across southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois including The Isthmus Jazz Festival, Jazz @ 5, Rockford’s On the Waterfront Festival and numerous High Schools and Middle Schools.

A long time fixture Thursday nights at Dotty Dumplings Dowry (Dotty’s) on Fairchild Street (until the demolition for the new arts center), the MJO continues the tradition of big band concert jazz in Madison, Wisconsin. With a library consisting of tunes by and from the libraries of the orchestras of Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Bob Mintzer and many more, the band is swinging like no other at every performance.”

During the concert, visitors will be able to watch as Overture staff illuminate “the grand waterfall of lights bejeweling the building to mark the holiday season.”

The Overture After Work program is now in its 5th year. All shows are from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Happy hour food and drink are available for purchase. The Overture Center for the Arts is located at 201 State Street. For additional information, call (608) 258-4177.
