Free Betty Boop and Japanese animation screenings

February 3, 2010

The UW-Madison Cinematheque will offer a free screening of three Betty Boop cartoons, followed by “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time,” winner of the 2007 Japan Academy Prize for Best Animation, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 5th in 4070 Vilas Hall, 821 University Avenue.

The featured Boop cartoons “Snow-White,” a surreal masterwork (which also features Cab Calloway as the voice of KoKo the Clown, singing the Saint James Infirmary Blues); “Poor Cinderella,” which is Betty’s only color outing; and “Grampy’s Indoor Outing.”

If you’ve never seen a Betty Boop cartoon, or if this is a busy weekend and you won’t be able to attend The Cinematheque screening, use the links in the previous paragraph to access videos of each one.

The Cinematheque is a coalition of UW-Madison academic departments and student film groups dedicated to showcasing films that might not otherwise reach Madison screens.
