New blog helps Madison-area readers enjoy freebies, discounts, and deals in Wisconsin’s capital city

Madison, WI: Tuesday, September 15, 2009 is the official launch date for Madison on the Cheap (http://madisononthecheap.com), a new online site dedicated to bringing residents and visitors up-to-the-minute information about freebies, discounts, and deals in Wisconsin’s capital city.

In today’s penny-pinching economy, people are looking for bargains. From families seeking low-cost activities to singles looking for cheap dating ideas, everyone is eager to find money-saving options. Madison on the Cheap fills this niche by presenting the best local deals available on dining, entertainment, concerts, kids’ activities, cultural events and more in Madison and the surrounding area.

While there are a myriad money-saving blogs, most focus on reaching a national audience in the U.S. Few offer city-specific deals.

“Madison has a wealth of opportunities – cultural, educational, and recreational – that are free or very reasonably priced, but until now there hasn’t been an online service that focused just on them,” says Madison on the Cheap publisher, Nadine Goff. “While there are other sources for comprehensive listings of local activities and events, we’re trying to remind people that it isn’t necessary to spend a lot of money to enjoy the good life in Madison.”

“Everyone is looking for deals right now,” says Goff. “And they’re out there. Madison on the Cheap is just trying to make it easy for people to find them.”

“Later in the week, Madison on the Cheap will be celebrating its official launch by offering what we hope will be the first in a series of giveaway contests,” adds Goff.

Madison on the Cheap is a member of the rapidly growing network of independently owned and operated “On the Cheap” sites. The network was founded in late 2008 by Jennifer Maciejewski of Atlanta.

More than 40 veteran journalists are already participating in the project. “On the Cheap” blogs currently cover many of the major cities in the U.S. and Canada, and more are in development.

The journalists involved in the project have many years of experience, with bylines appearing in major newspapers and glossy national magazines. In addition, many of the writers involved have high-level marketing and public relations experience. This combination of skills and experience, coupled with an exceptionally timely concept, make “On the Cheap” blogs a sure bet for success.

Blog to Watch: Cities on the Cheap

The site—which got its start simply as Atlanta on the Cheap—now covers the latest bargains and budget shortcuts in 30-plus locations across the U.S. and Canada.

Atlanta on the Cheap has spawned 40 other cheapskate blogs clustered together under Cities on the Cheap

I haven’t burdened our readers with rapturous comments about Atlanta on the Cheap (www.atlantaonthecheap.com) which lists discount coupons, free attractions, and tactics for saving money in the Georgia metropolis; although the cheapskate in me has been powerfully attracted to it.

But what began as a single-city service, has now blossomed into 40 such services for 40 different U.S. cities. And all 40 of them are now appearing in Cities on the Cheap (www.citiesonthecheap.com), to which ultra-penny-pinchers all over the nation are paying attention. So in the finest traditions of blogging, I’m now spilling the beans.
