We’ve been receiving intriguing invitations to this event from some of our favorite people, that say things like this: “To all the Freaks, Geeks & Romantics: PLEASE invite your friends to this…let’s represent and show these San Franciscans how we do things up north!”
So we did some searching and decided this is definitely an event worth attending — especially since tickets are a mere $10! In addition to the Yard Dogs Road Show, the Fireball Masquerade will feature local talent, including Ashar Dance, Foxy Veronica’s Peach Pies, James the Magician, and DJ Nick Nice. Hosting the event is the “incomparable” Miss Tamale.
We found a video that gives a glimpse of what you may expect from the Yard Dogs Road Show. Check it out.
And we almost forgot to address the masquerade part of this extravaganza… Event sponsors say, “We encourage everyone to dress to the nines for the occasion, regardless of how you define “nines.” Come in your prom getup, steampunk duds, fetish gear, Star Trek dress blues, Renaissance finery, or anything else that makes you feel good!”
Download the MP3 versions of songs from “Glee: The Music, Journey To Regionals”from Amazon.com for just $5.99. The six songs include the Regionals version of “Don’t Stop Believn’” and the Glee Cast version of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” featuring Jonathan Groff.
Individual songs are $1.29 each. For cheap thrills, play the samples: These teasers will probably convince you to purchase the whole collection… unless, of course, you can’t stand the show.
Watch a flotilla of rubber ducks race toward the finish line during the Remarkable Rubber Ducky River Race from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15th at Tenney Park on the Yahara River.
There’s no charge to watch the race, but if you want to enter your own rubber duck in the race, you’ll have to buy one for $2 (or buy 6 for $10). The event which is co-sponsored by The Madison Mallards Baseball Club, Madison Parks, the Madison Parks Foundation, and West Bend, is a fundraiser and all proceeds will benefit the Goodman Pool Scholarship Fund.
You may purchase rubber ducks in advance online at the Madison Mallards website or on the day of the event. There will be a limited number of Rubber Ducks available so organizers are encouraging event-goers to get there as early as possible or to pre-purchase.
In addition to the Remarkable Rubber Ducky Race, Mallards mascot Maynard G. Mallard will be on-hand to greet fans, and kids can test their skills with the Speed Pitch, T-Ball Game, and Bounce House. Food and drink will also be available for purchase.

Please note that you must enter the sweepstakes to print the coupon.
If you want to participate in this offer, visit the Oscar Mayer Facebook page, click on the “WIN a Ride” tab, and follow the instructions.
Wow! Here’s your chance to see your photo displayed in Times Square! You won’t have 15 minutes of fame, but you will have 10 seconds — and Kodak, which is sponsoring this opportunity, says you’ll be able to control when your photo shows up on their huge digital display at “The Crossroads of the World.” Furthermore, you’ll be able to display your photo up to six times during a 30-day period, which means you can experience at least a minute of fame during 2010.
There is no charge for this opportunity, but it does require a mobile telephone, so message and data charges may apply.
We suspect there will be millions of people eager to see their photo displayed on Times Square, so it’s probably unreasonable to expect your photo to show up on the display at midnight tonight. A bit of scheduling flexibility will no doubt be necessary.
If you’re ready to get started, visit Thomas Hoehn’s post on the “A Thousand Words” section of the Kodak website for complete instructions.
While searching for something else, we happened upon this funny little gadget on sale at Amazon: The Microwavable S’Mores Maker.
At first we thought it was a joke. We take our s’mores very seriously and know that it’s not easy to make them at home. Toast them over that gas flame on your stove and they taste weird and tend to drip. Electric stoves avoid the taste problem, but these experiments have likewise proven messy. So forgive us for being skeptical.
But we read the customer comments and people praised this device, so we’re thinking seriously about investing $7.19 $6.15 in a new plaything. The Progressive International Microwavable S’Mores Maker qualifies for Free Super Saver Shipping, so we’ll probably add it to one of those orders where we’re a few dollars short of qualifying $25 total.
If you haven’t paid a visit to YouTube lately, you may be surprised by what you find there. As Mashable blogger Jennifer Van Grove noted in April, YouTube is becoming increasingly “Hulufied.” If you still think YouTube is about music and amateur video, take another look.
We clicked over to the YouTube Shows section after reading Van Grove’s post indicating that, “…YouTube just announced that the full-length Showtime season premieres of “Dexter” and “Californication” can now be watched by US viewers through October 12th.
After clicking around a bit, we discovered a slew of episodes from classic television shows, including 122 episodes of “MacGyver,” 105 episodes of “Bewitched,” and 29 episodes of “Bonanza.” The sound and image quality on the ones we watched were good: These are not amateur-made kinescopes.
Additionally, there is an eclectic (same might say weird or eccentric) collection of old movies, some of which have strange restrictions attached. We had no problems viewing the opening minutes of “The Violent Years,” but YouTube wanted us to swear we were 18 before we could screen “The Blob.”
With all the other free and cheap things to do in Madison, we don’t know why you’d want to stay inside and watch old movies on your computer, but Izzy the Intern says Madison On the Cheap should offer a wide range of options, not just the ones we think might be good for you. Besides, some rainy night we’ll probably have to watch at least a couple of episodes of “The Lone Ranger.”
Are you a coupon queen? Do you long to be on a reality television series? Do you have a big personality?
A Los Angeles production company is looking for people people who are “willing to share their compulsion of hunting down the best deal and for entertaining on a dime.” Rather than paraphrase the whole press release from BWR Public Relations, we’re just going to copy and paste it into this post. A number of people from the Madison area have been on “Jeopardy” or been featured in reality shows. Maybe you’ll be next! Here are the details: Continue reading Cheap thrills!
