There will be a special Family Night performance by Cycropia Aerial Dance at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 26th during the Marquette Neighborhood’s 45th annual Orton Park Festival on Madison’s East Side. This performance was scheduled so that the Cycropians can have the audience’s full attention. They will also perform at 8:45 p.m. on Friday, August 27th.
The four-day festival, which runs from August 26th-29th, 2010 also features a variety of free live music performances and food. This fund-raising even brings together the rhythm and vibrancy of Africa with fun for the whole family, and will feature WADOMA West African Dance of Madison, Tani Diakite, Tony Castaneda, Andy Ewen, juggling, drumming, face painting, African storytelling, a live and silent auction and much more!
There is a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children under 16, with 100% of the proceeds raised going directly to benefit AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in Southern Africa.
Kidlinks World, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3, non-profit organization that is based in Madison, Wisconsin and is 100% volunteer-run and donor-funded. Kidlinks has been in existence since 2004, with the mission of improving the lives of AIDS orphans and vulnerable children in Southern Africa.
Enjoy a master dance demonstration and lesson with Madison’s Žaibas Lithuanian Dancers from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21st in the On Wisconsin rooms B and C of the Red Gym,716 Langdon Street.
Please wear sneakers or other comfortable shoes and plan to participate in this program, which is free and open to the public.
Žaibas (pronounced Zhy′ bus) is the Lithuanian word for lightning bolt. The group chose that name because it brings to mind the nature of both Lithuania and Wisconsin. Žaibas Lithuanian Dancers perform at folk fairs, school programs, dance festivals and other cultural events. As a Madison Vilnius Sister Cities‘ project, Žaibas works to share, preserve, and promote Lithuanian heritage.
“Breakin’ The Law: 7 Deadly Styles,” a festival of urban movement, will be held at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center from 6 p.m until midnight on Friday, April 30th and 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 1st.
Wisconsin’s first and only international break-dancing competition, “Breakin’ the Law” is sponsored by The UW-Breakers & King’s Eye View Productions. The event is free and open to the public.

As part of its “Take 10″ program, the Overture Center for the Arts is offering $10 tickets to K-12 students and educators who wish to see Hubbard Street Dance Chicago perform at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 1st. “Take 10″ tickets must be purchase in person at the Overture Center box office. In order to qualify for this price, students and educators must present a student or educator ID (or proof of age for students).
If you don’t qualify for a “Take 10″ ticket discount, there are $15 seats available in the Overture Hall balcony and rear mezzanine. To avoid additional fees and order charges, purchase your tickets in person at the Overture Center box office, 201 State Street.
Enjoy selections from “Peter Rabbit” when members of Dance Wisconsin perform the classic and magical ballet featuring characters from Beatrix Potter’s beloved tales at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 21st at the Waisman Center Auditorium, 1500 Highland Avenue.
Under the artistic direction of Jo Jean Retrum, “Dance Wisconsin is a pre-professional regional dance company that promotes excellence in the art of dance.”

The Kids in the Rotunda series, sponsored by the American Girl’s Fund for Children, runs from October through May, with three performances each Saturday. Admission is FREE and open to the public.

Participate in a traditional Moonshine ritual from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 19th in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space in Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Avenue.
The event will feature UW-Madison Dance Department faculty member Chris Walker, a dancer and choreographer with the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica, and friends, including acclaimed African-American student artists.
“Moonshine is a community gathering that traditionally occurs on the full moon,” explains Walker. “Community members would gather under the light of the moon and share in songs, dance, poetry and storytelling. Elders would gather the younglings and cultural histories would be passed down in the form of exciting stories, songs, rhythms and movement. Others would get creative and perform neo-traditional and choreographed dances, while some would share their well rehearsed skills in oration in the form of spoken word and poetry.”
Come prepared to engage in and witness African and African-Caribbean dance, hip hop, spoken word, poetry, drumming, chanting, singing and more at this celebration of Black History Month.
Milwaukee’s Ton Ko-Thi youth group will perform traditional high-energy African dance, backed up by live African drumming at Olbrich Botantical Gardens on Saturday, January 30th. The group features two dozen dancers and a dozen drummers, all in colorful African dress. There will be two performances: one at 10:30 a.m. and another at 1:30 p.m.
The performances are part of the Children of the Rainforest series, which offers performances for families to celebrate cultural differences in rainforest regions around the world, and is generously sponsored by William Wartmann.
Tickets for both performances will be available at the door. Ticket prices are $3 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. Children ages 2 and under will be admitted free.
Enjoy an hour of toe-tapping fun and rich Irish heritage, traditional costumes and music as this Irish step dancing ensemble takes to the stage. General admission tickets are $2 for adults and $1 for children. Free parking is available in the lot near the soccer fields.
The Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company, featuring 80 musicians and dancers will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 14th at the Wisconsin Union Theater, 800 Langdon Street. Special reduced price tickets are available if you want to see this company known for its colorful and high-energy performances.
Mid-range and top price tickets for the general public, originally priced at $27 and $32, respectively, are now $22 and $26. The lowest price tickets remain at $18.
Wisconsin Union members, faculty, and students from other schools are eligible for an additional $3 discount per ticket, but you need to ask for it and provide identification.
In addition to the reduced price tickets, there are special “Family Savings Event” tickets available. Up to two youth (ages 6-18) tickets are available for only $12 with the purchase of an adult ticket.
UW-Madison students with a valid identification card may purchase tickets for $10.
Although you may order tickets online or purchase them by telephone, you’ll save money by buying them in person at the box office, thereby avoiding a $3.50 service fee. There is a $1 facility fee for each ticket, and this fee cannot be avoided. In other words, be sure to have an extra dollar in your pocket when you go to buy that ticket.
