It’s a great thing for us, we only hope to get our menu in the hands of as many Madisonians as will show up!”

Doors open at 12 noon.
Free Lunch served until 2 p. m.

Free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for volunteer workers

Target and Ben & Jerry’s have teamed up to encourage people to volunteer in their local communities — and they’re offering a sweet incentive for those who sign up with a local organization through VolunteerMatch: A coupon for a FREE pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream (either “Berry Voluntary” or “Brownie Chew Gooder” flavor) and an opportunity to pass on coupons to five friends.

If you’re willing to volunteer time for a good cause, here’s how to participate in this offer:

(1) Visit the VolunteerMatch “Scoop it Forward” webpage

(2) Search for ways to volunteer in your community, chose one, chose one, and give your contact information. We searched using a Madison ZIP code and found some great opportunities to volunteer for such organizations as Independent Living, Inc. and the Madison Children’s Museum (which is looking for a “Rooftop Ranger” and a “Log Cabin Leader”).

(3) Check the follow up e-mail you’ll receive for a link to a FREE coupon.

(4) Pass on free coupons to five friends (while supplies last) and ask them to sign up to volunteer.

There’s a bit of fine print: You must sign up by 12-31-2010 to receive the free coupon while supplies last. The coupon is valid at Target stores where Ben & Jerry’s is sold. Limit one coupon per guest.

Update (7/8/2010): So much for “while supplies last.” We just received the following memo from Deborah Nies: “Just wanted to let you know that the Ben & Jerry’s offer is for $1.00 off coupon on a pint of ice cream. (not a free pint anymore). Daughter Hannah signed up to volunteer at MCM and that’s the coupon she received.”

Some fast food deals you won’t find in Madison

We know there’s no place you’d rather be on a warm, sunny day than hanging out in Madison — but sometimes you have to leave home because your job requires travel, your in-laws demand a visit, you’ve decided to attend your high school reunion in New Jersey, or you’ve acquired a severe case of wanderlust.

That’s why we’ve decided to let you know about a some fast food freebies and deals you’ll find elsewhere, but not in Madison. Seriously, can you imagine anyone dressing up like a cow for a free sandwich? Yeah, you’re right; we can too. That said, here’s the list:

Monday, July 5th through Friday, July 23rd there’s a dining BOGO at participating IKEA stores: Buy one buffalo chicken wrap combo with chips and a fountain drink for $5.78 and get the second combo free.

Wednesday, July 7th if you print and present a special online coupon, you’ll receive a free flame-grilled chicken leg with any purchase at El Pollo Loco

Friday, July 9th is Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A restaurants: Dress like a cow and you’ll get a free meal. Need help with your costume? Here’s a starter kit (PDF download).

Sunday, July 11th is 7-Eleven Day 2010. Visit any participating 7-Eleven Store in the U.S .and get a free 7.11oz Slurpee drink until 11 p.m.

Thursday, July 29th the Cheesecake Factory will give you a slice for only $1.50 if you pre-register by becoming one of their Facebook fans (“Like” them).

Goofy photos earn a free DiGiorno Deep Dish Pizza

Just how ridiculous are you willing to be for a free pizza?

Thought so… Here are the instructions for snagging a FREE DiGiorno Deep Dish Pizza: Visit the DiGiorno Facebook Deep Dish page and use their application to add your face to a goofy picture. Then post it on Facebook.

We started to test this offer for ourselves, but things seemed to be moving in slow motion (probably an overloaded server coping with thousands of hungry fans). We grew impatient and stopped the process, so we can’t tell you where on Facebook your goofy composite photo will be revealed, whether it will bear your name, or how you can remove it.

We do know that even though we didn’t complete the process, Facebook had added an application to our account (which we’ve already removed).

There is an alternative to the silliness: Click on the “Not on Facebook?” image on the DiGiorno Facebook Deep Dish page and you’ll be able to print a coupon for $1 off a DiGiorno Deep Dish Pizza.

We have no idea how long this offer will be available, so don’t ruminate too long over your decision about how far you’ll go for a freebie.

The FREE pizza offer has expired. There is, however, a $2 coupon available.

Plumber’s butt solutions at the Duck Pond Saturday

Are you suffering from plumber’s butt, sharing a bit too much information? Be among the first 250 guys to attend the Madison Mallard’s game on Saturday, June 12th and Duluth Trading Company will offer you a solution to this embarrassing problem: a FREE Longtail-T.

Here’s what the Belleville-based company specializing in clothes for tradesmen (and “real women”) has to say about the Longtail-T: “In 2002, in the cause of modesty and good taste, we introduced the Longtail T. A little bit of innovation – three more inches of shirt body length – solved an age old problem: the infamous, much feared Plumber’s Butt. Suddenly, the guys who bend over when they work had new respectability. They were better able to stay in the good graces of clients and stop frightening unsuspecting passersby.”

The Duluth Trading Company will also be giving away 250 FREE ball caps at this game. Plus, there will also be fireworks after the game, courtesy of TDS.

For more about the Madison Mallards, or to purchase tickets to this game, visit the Duck Pond website. There are usually ticket options for less than $10.
